Advisee holiday get together...

This afternoon we joined forces with Mrs. Kosnik's advisee group to create beautiful works of... graham cracker houses?!

We've clearly been busy around here (notice the last time I posted) so we felt like we deserved a relaxing advisee period.  This week we will share winter vacation plans with one another and get ready to dive into the second trimester. Grades should be arriving at home so take a moment to discuss strategies for continued growth and improvement for the rest of the year.

Do our students have a consistent place to complete homework? Are binders organized? Let's continue to keep a balance at school and at home so our awesome kids can continue to be and do their best.

Have a wonderful break- spend time with family and enjoy one another.

Halloween at 181 Lincoln

Hello everyone-
I wanted to share some Halloween photos from today- everyone looked great!

In our post-candy stupor, let's remind students to reorganize themselves as November is coming- tomorrow.
We can take a look at papers, clean out lockers, even turn in any outstanding work.

Hope you all enjoyed the snow, the sun, and have fun tonight!

November approaching...

Good afternoon advisees and families,
Some quick reminders looking ahead as November approaches... (already?!)

1. Friday morning Middle School assemblies will now take place at the Athletic Center on President Street instead of Sterling Place.  The max. occupancy of Sterling Place is currently being reviewed and we hope to re-enter that building soon.

2. HALLOWEEN at BCS- remember to wear your (dress code appropriate) Halloween costume to school on Monday, October 31st.  Prizes will be given in several categories!

3.  There is both a non-perishable food drive AND a coat drive happening at BCS.  Do what you can to help - there are families in our Park Slope community who need our support.  Thank you!

have a great weekend, look for an email from the school regarding parent/teacher conferences and how to sign up online for your preferred time slots.

Back from Clearpool... welcome to October at BCS

Hi everyone,
Below you'll find some pics of Oliver and Brett and our adventures with the 6th grade trip to Carmel, NY at Clearpool Camp. We boated, hiked, explored, and challenged ourselves each day. I wish our 8th graders an amazing trip to Wyoming- what an adventure!!

This week the teachers will be busy writing anecdotal reports on new students and meeting with their grades about upcoming events, such as parent teacher conferences.  I know it may seem like a while away, but please be proactive in scheduling a time to meet with teachers so it's convenient for everybody.  I'll send out an email once scheduling is available.  I will be in Room 5- stop in and say hello!

have a great week.

First two weeks! And a Parent Night thank you...

Hello everyone-
With two weeks behind us it seems (most of us) finally know what we're doing around here!

Students are settling into the 6 day routine, and teachers are just trying to catch up on sleep. That being said, welcome to the advisee blog.

I wanted to take a minute and say how nice it was to meet you on Parent's Night on Monday. Thanks for taking the time out to meet teachers, mingle with friends, and go back to middle school.

Please take a minute to poke around at photos, birthdays, and the upcoming snack schedule. This is a work in progress but I will always email you when I make a new post or add photos.  Please email me if there is anyone I should add to the group list, or take away (an old work email, etc.)

enjoy!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Danielle, Caleb, Sophie, Chelsea, John, Izzy, Brett and Oliver. This advisee blog is a place for our group and for your families to visit.  I will periodically (about once a month) post info about upcoming events, experiences and successes within our group, and community announcements.  You will see birthdays and a rotating snack list on the right side on the page.  As always, you may email me with any questions or concerns as the year rolls on.  (ekellogg@berkeleycarroll.org)  I am very excited to meet all of you!  This is my first year at Berkeley Carroll and I have heard such wonderful things about all of you already.  The last six years I have been teaching middle school in West Hartford, CT called Kingswood Oxford.  In many ways it is wonderful to be new again and I know we will be supportive of one another as we learn and grow this year.  :-)
